Micro-Needling is a safe and advanced collagen induction therapy used to improve the appearance of scarring, pigmentation and ageing. Micro-Needling has been used for thousands of years in ancient Chinese medicine. In the 1900's a German dermatologist experimented with needling to treat scars, birthmarks and hyperpigmentation. By micro injuring the skin with needles, they discovered we stimulate the body's natural wound response forcing your skin to heal. Pin pricks from the procedure causes slight injury to the skin and the skin responds by making new collagen-rich tissue. This new skin tissue is, in turn, more even in tone and texture. By encouraging the skin to make new tissue it helps to make the skin firmer. Because the needles used are so small and penetrate very shallowly into the skin, it is generally not painful. We can apply a topical anaesthetic to help with the discomfort. Downtime is between 24-48 hours. We do want to achieve redness to be sure we have sufficiently injured the skin to create a wound response. Try to see the redness as your goal. You will need to be careful post treatment and this will be covered in your initial consultation. Most of the redness will go down in 24 hours. Each skin varies.

This form of collagen induction therapy is powerful and results driven. Due to the fact we are promoting the skin to naturally heal itself, the results aren't immediate. You are will start seeing results 4-6 weeks post treatment as that is how long it takes the skin to heal itself. This treatment is best to be taken in a course of 3 or more to see noticeable improvements. Treatments should be taken between 3-6 weeks apart.

Your first appointment will be 1 hour 30 minutes as it will include a thorough consultation. Subsequent treatments will be around 45 minutes to 1 hour long.

How Does IPL treatment work?
IPL is an increasingly popular cosmetic treatment, which uses pulses of filtered light to achieve a variety of different effects, by targeting specific parts of the skin. Because of the versatility of the light filters, IPL can be used to treat many different skin concerns.

What can it be used for?
IPL is excellent for treating acne, pigmentation, sun damage, thread veins and other vascular lesions. It is also a popular hair removal method, and it can be used to help reduce scarring too. IPL is also a great anti-ageing treatment. For each of these skin concerns, IPL targets a different structure within the skin - in the case of hair removal, it is the hair follicle, for pigmentation, IPL targets the unwanted melanin, and for anti-ageing and scarring, IPL stimulates collagen production.

How does it work?
In the cases of pigmentation and vascular lesions, the pulses of light heat up the specific structures that cause the imperfections, without heating the rest of the skin. This heat causes damage to the structure, and this alerts the body to remove it, using its own, natural, healing response. For pigmentation, the body flushes away the unwanted melanin pigment, leaving behind your natural skin tone, while for vascular lesions; it's the broken blood vessels. In the case of hair removal, IPL permanently inhibits the hair follicle's ability to produce hair, and for acne, it reduces the activity of the oil glands, allowing the skin to regain balance and letting the pores unclog. As for scarring and anti-ageing, IPL tricks the body into thinking the skin has been damaged; this stimulates collagen production, leading to wrinkles and pitted scars being replaced with plumped, smooth skin.

What does it feel like?
IPL feels a bit like your skin is being lightly flicked with an elastic band. SkinBase IPL handsets use unique cryo-cooling technology to cool the skin and reduce sensitivity before the treatment - this helps to make it far more comfortable than traditional light-based treatments.

How many treatments will I need?
This depends on what you are being treated for - if you are having IPL for acne, you may only need 1-3 treatments, whereas if you're having it for hair removal you'll generally need between 6-10. Your therapist will work out a treatment plan with you before you begin.

How do I prepare for IPL treatment?
The most important thing to make sure you do before IPL is to start protecting your skin from the sun. Use SPF 30 every day for at least a month before treatment, and continue to use it every day during, and after treatment too. You should also make sure you aren't using any skincare with Vitamin A, or Retinol in it for at least 60 days before treatment, as this ingredient has a photosensitising effect and can also make your skin extremely reactive. Your therapist will be able to go over the more in-depth requirements for IPL treatment, to make sure that it's the right treatment for you, and ensure that you know exactly how to care for your skin to get the best possible effects.

If it is your first time for bikini waxing (ladies only), don't feel embarrassed. You have the bikini wax with knickers on. If you are having a Hollywood or Brazilian wax you can take knickers off if you prefer, but it is not necessary... and at any point you can have a towel over you if you feel self conscious. The lash lift and tint is a simple and effective treatment to enhance your natural lashes. Silicone shields are used to lift your lashes and perm them in this new position. Eyelash tint is then applied to define the lashes. The results can last 4-8 weeks. This is ideal for holidays, swimming, everyday to save curling lashes, people who do not wear make-up, weddings and parties.

A tint test must be carried out at least 24 hours prior to your treatment or it cannot go ahead.

Cancellations

Any treatment cancelled with less than 24hrs notice will be charged at 50%. If you don't show or cancel with only a few hours notice a full 100% charge will be incurred.

When booking treatments that take over an hour or cost more than £35 you will be asked for a 50% deposit, you then only have to pay the reminder of the price once you have had your treatment. You will be refunded your deposit if you cancel as long as it is with at least 48hrs notice.

If you arrive over 15mins late, you may not be able to have your full treatment, however we reserve the right to charge full treatment cost.
